Media Relations

AmericaSpeaks, a nonprofit that engages citizens in the public decision-making process, selected Portland as one of six cities in the nation to hold a major town-hall style event. The primary goal was to bring together between 300 and 500 Portland citizens who represented the area’s diverse social, political, demographic and idealogical makeup for a nonpartisan day-long discussion on the economic challenges that face the country. Frause partnered with its PROI partner Widmeyer Communications, which managed agencies in the other five cities.

Outcomes/Results

Through a combination of grassroots community relations, traditional media relations and social media outreach, Portland was able to secure a massive amount of pre-event media coverage, which attracted 428 citizens – the second highest attendance of the six participating cities. In contrast, Portland had the smallest total population of residents compared to the other five cities. As a result of the major media relations effort, Frause was able to secure print and digital coverage in local and regional daily newspapers, community papers, blogs, talk radio news programs and television news broadcasts. Examples include: • The Oregonian and The Columbian (the only two daily newspapers in the region) • Multiple community newspapers including The Beaverton Valley Times, The Asian Reporter, The Mercury and The Hillsboro Argus • Multiple local radio interviews and pre-event television coverage
