Puget Sound Clean Air Agency - Diesel Solutions
Media Relations / Conumer Relations
Frause was given just two weeks to coordinate a comprehensive media event rolling out the new Diesel Solutions program for the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency and its partner organizations. The United States Environmental Protection Agency administrator, Christine Todd Whitman, was the featured speaker. Comprehensive media coverage was expected. However, the event happened to coincide with the Major League Baseball All Star Game held in Seattle on the same day.
Solution
While finalizing site logistics, Frause communicated to local reporters the news value of the Diesel Solutions story and the importance of attending the event despite the Major League Baseball All-Star Game. At the same time, the team coordinated with EPA staff based in Washington, D.C., and participants from 17 other partner organizations to ensure consistent messaging prior to, during and after the event. In addition to working with government officials at the local, state and national level, the agency provided creative design; public relations; a new Diesel Solutions logo and promotional items; and sound and staging coordination.
Outcomes/Results
The result was media coverage by Seattle’s four television stations, both daily newspapers – Seattle Times and Seattle Post-Intelligencer, and on various local radio stations. The Associated Press ran a story and photo that was picked up by several newspapers throughout the Puget Sound region.
